A Naperville Christmas 1974

This is part two of the concert by Naperville Central High School Double Madrigal Chorale in 1974. It was recorded in the school chapel. Sadly the cassette tape I have is damaged towards the end so some tracks are missing. 

Spring Arrives at Paxton Pits Nature Reserve.

Spring 2018 is very late. This recording was made during a brief spell of warm, sunny weather. All too soon it was over and temperatures fell again.

This recording was found on a casette tape belonging to Hanna Kist Stevenson who was in the chorale at the time. 

Radio Tay: Volunteers at Vane Farm around 1989

This is a bit of a low-key broadcastfrom Radio Tay, back in the day. I enjoyed hearing the lovely voices of our volunteers, especially Harold.

The Copper Family at the White Horse in Sutton.

This was the night of our Registry Office Wedding on September 2nd 1983. The landlady at the White Horse on the Sussex Downs laid on a spread for us and the Copper Family sang their hearts out between the chat. Unforgettable. Sadly, the recording is incomplete.

Gulls on a dump.

The last of the batch of old recordings from my days at the Wildfowl Trust in Arundel. This one is about gulls at the local tip, with Ken Smith from the RSPB. It was bitterly old and windy so the resuts from a recording point of view are not great. It's so much easier to edit and mix today, but wind and traffic noise are just as much a problem now as they were then.

This is another joint effort with Ken Smith. It's part of an educational series that we made for BBC Radio Solent inthe late 80s. I think it was recorded at Shoreham near the RSPB's office at the time.

The Robin and the Wren.

Back in the late 1980's I was the education officer at the Wildfowl Trust's reserve at Arundel. My friend Ken Smith had the same role with the RSPB, based in Shoreham and together we made schools' broadcasts for BBC Radio Solent, using an old Uher reel-to-reel recorder. It wasn't an easy thing to do in those days and, depite the obvious amatuerishness of the results, I'm rather enjoying listening to them for the feist time in 30 years!
